Hey guys! I just finished this book and I really wanted to talk about it! Parts of it were very relatable for me. I really loved the fandom aspect of it.
Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
Age Range: 16+ (It deals with some more serious topics)
Synopsis:
Her story is a phenomenon. Her life is a disaster.
In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, and friendless. Online, she’s LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves the online one, and she has no desire to try.
Then Wallace Warland, Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer, transfers to her school. Wallace thinks Eliza is just another fan, and as he draws her out of her shell, she begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile.
WARNING: I didn't include the last paragraph of the synopsis given on Goodreads and the dust jacket of the book. In my opinion it is very spoilery, so if you don't want spoilers, don't read the last paragraph of that synopsis.
Characters: I really loved the characters in this book. I could really relate to Eliza in so many ways. I can't draw like she can, I am more of a writer like Wallace, but her reactions to the world around her are very similar to my own. Eliza's romance with Wallace was adorable. It was a slower burning romance, which I appreciated. Wallace is so kind a loyal. I loved that aspect of his character. I will talk more about other characters in the spoiler section.
Plot: The plot was super easy to get into! It reads fairly quickly and for me was very relatable. There were no parts where I was bored.
SPOILER SECTION: I really wanted to mention Sully and Church. At first I thought they were fine, but I didn't really have an opinion about them. By the end I thought they were totally sweet and adorable. I loved how Sully stood up for Eliza when he saw she was having a hard time. I really enjoyed the family aspects of this book.
There is one part where Wallace comes off kind of rude towards Eliza. I didn't really like that part but I think it was Wallace not realizing how emotionally shaken Eliza is. I think he tried to make up for it once he realizes that. I still love Wallace.
Thank you for reading! If you have read this book let me know your thoughts on it in the comments! I hope you have a lovely day!
