Hey guys! Happy New Year!! Today I want to share with you my top 5 books of 2016. Just to clarify - not all these books were published in 2016, I just read them in 2016. I read a lot of really great books this past year and I am excited to share some of them with you.
Coming in at number 5 we have:
The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas
The Assassin's Blade is actually a bind up of five novellas that take place before Throne of Glass (the first book in the Throne of Glass series). In this story we follow an assassin named Celaena Sardothien as she goes on various missions. I really loved getting to see Celaena's character in this story. While this book isn't for younger readers I found it very entertaining. I have continued on with the first two books of the series and am enjoying them.
number 4:
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
I read this book for a class and absolutely loved it. This was my first time reading anything by Agatha Christie and I definitely want to read more. This story is a murder mystery that takes place on a train called the Orient Express. The detective of the story (Hercule Poirot) is so fun to read about and all the characters were very well developed. My favorite thing about this novel, though, was that the ending totally took me by surprise. I love a mystery that I can't predict! Also, I thought the movie adaptation of this novel was very well done.
number 3:
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
If you're looking for a book that will make you cry, this is it! I read this book really quickly and fell in love with it. It follows a boy named Conor who is having a rough go of things. Then a monster calls and all it wants from Conor is the truth. This book was just beautiful. If you decide you want to read this, definitely pick up the illustrated edition because the artwork is amazing. I am excited to see the movie adaptation of it that is coming out soon.
number 2:
The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
This is the first book in the Trials of Apollo series. Like with all of Rick Riordan's books this one made me laugh SO MUCH. We get to read from the perspective of the greek god Apollo as he is cast down to earth as a mortal teenage boy (acne and flab included). If you haven't read any of Rick Riordan's books yet, you should! Start with The Lightning Thief and go from there. Incase you were wondering, The Hidden Oracle will spoil the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and The Heroes of Olympus series, so read those before this one. I have really enjoyed all of Rick Riordan's books and highly recommend them for anyone.
and finally -
number 1:
Michael Vey 6: Fall of Hades by Richard Paul Evans
So.... the Michael Vey series is probably my favorite book series of all time next to Harry Potter (trust me, I don't mean that lightly). This series is absolutely fantastic. It follows a boy named Michael Vey. At first Michael Vey seems like your ordinary teenage boy, but he has a secret. When his mom is kidnapped he has to team up with his friends to try and get her back and awesomeness ensues from there. Seriously though, this series is really good. I convinced my mom to read it and she seems to really like it. I think this series is great for boys and girls of all ages. And my favorite thing about this series - IT'S REALLY CLEAN. I'm pretty sure there are no swear words in the entire series so far. There are intense moments but it never gets too gory. My only caution is maybe wait to read it until the last book is out so the cliffhanger at the end of book 6 doesn't drive you nuts!
Thanks for reading this! Sorry it's kind of long! Let me know in the comments some books you enjoyed reading this year! Bye!
