Book Review - A Series of Unfortunate Events books 1-6 by Lemony Snicket

Hey guys! I am really enjoying this series so far! In case you didn't know, this is a 13 book series. This will be my review of books 1 through 6. I wanted to read them because of the Netflix show that is on now based off of these books. They are so fun!

Overall: I gave each of these 5 out of 5 stars

My Ranking (favorite to least favorite):
The Austere Academy (book 5)
The Ersatz Elevator (book 6)
The Reptile Room (book 2)
The Bad Beginning (book 1)
The Wide Window (book 3)
The Miserable Mill (book 4)

Age Range: 9 and up

Synopsis: This series follows three orphans (Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire) as they experience many unfortunate, a word which here means not very fun, events. Violet likes to invent, Klaus likes to read, and Sunny likes to bite things. They use these skills to get them out of a lot of sticky situations.

Characters: Violet, Klaus and Sunny are each fantastic characters. They are so clever! Count Olaf is the perfect villain. He is so malevolent, a word which here means evil. Count Olaf and his troupe just seem so creepy! All the other adults in this series are pretty much useless, which is frustrating, but I think that's the point.

Plot: Admittedly the plot does get a bit repetitive after a few books, but I honestly didn't mind that too much. I enjoy seeing how Violet, Klaus and Sunny think their way out of things. Plus, something is brought up in book 5 that makes the plot more interesting (more details in the spoilery section).

Spoilery Section: The reason book 5 is my favorite is because we meet the Quagmires. It was nice to see the Baudelaires have friends. We are also introduced to V.F.D. at the end of book 5, which makes the series more interesting. I really liked Uncle Monty in book 2. Besides the Baudelaires, he is my favorite character so far. I also really enjoy the random literary references thrown in throughout the series.

Thanks for reading! I will have a review up soon for the rest of the series, as well as my review of the Netflix series! If you have read these books let me know your thoughts on them in the comments! Have a great day!
