A Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix Series Review

Hey Guys! Recently I have been watching A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. I think they have done a wonderful job on this adaptation. Also, it was very clever that they released it on a Friday the 13th.

Casting: I think the casting is great. Neil Patrick Harris plays a great Count Olaf. He is doing a really good job of capturing the creepiness of Count Olaf. Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes and Presley Smith are perfect for their roles as the Baudelaire children. Presley Smith (who plays Sunny Baudelaire) is adorable. Patrick Warburton's narration as Lemony Snicket is also spot on.

General Thoughts: The overall feel of the episodes match the books very well. It is dark but comical at the same time. There are so many details from the books that are put in that make me very happy. Overall, if you liked the books you should definitely watch this Netflix series!

Spoilery Section: The song played at the opening credits is fantastic. It captures the feel of the show and books so well! I also really liked the fact that we got the Beatrice dedications at the beginning of every two episodes. That made me very happy.

Episodes 1 & 2: Count Olaf's house was so disgusting! It is exactly what I pictured his house to be like. The song Count Olaf sang was kind of weird, though. Justice Strauss was perfect. She was so kind but so clueless at the same time. The scene where she brings the children food was done very well. The whole thing with Sunny playing poker while trapped in her cage was also kind of weird. I don't know if I really liked that or not. Also, they introduce V.F.D. in episode 1 while in the books it isn't introduced until book 5. I liked this change from the books, though. I definitely think it works.

Episodes 3 & 4: Monty is perfect. I loved seeing the reptile room. Mr. Poe's scene in episode 4 was done incredibly well. Count Olaf's disguise is totally ridiculous but it fits with the story. There was more V.F.D. stuff in this episode than I thought there was going to be and I didn't really like that.

Episodes 5 & 6: These two were probably my least favorite. Aunt Josephine's love for grammar was shown very well. Her crazy fears were a little much at times, though. For me it got kind of annoying. I think it had just the right amount of V.F.D. references, though.

Episodes 7 & 8: Klaus did a good job in these two episodes. The hypnotism aspect was done very well. Also the twist with the Quagmire parents was interesting. I really enjoyed that part. I also really liked the song at the end. Again, I think that song captures the overall feel of the show so well.

Thanks for reading! If you have seen these episodes let me know your thoughts on them! Have a great day!
