Book Review - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J. K. Rowling

Hey guys! Reading this screenplay for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was so fun! I haven't seen the movie yet, but now I really want to! I read this screenplay really fast and enjoyed every second of it! This review is spoiler free.

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Age Range: 13 and up

Synopsis: This story takes place in 1920's New York and follows a Magizoologist named Newt Scamander. Things seem fine until Newt's suitcase full of magical creatures is misplaced and the creatures are released. Can Newt get his creatures back before they expose the magical world and destroy New York City?

Characters: Since this is a screenplay rather than a novel I thought I wouldn't get as attached to the characters, but I was wrong! I loved so many of the characters! My favorite character was probably the no-maj (or muggle) Jacob. All Jacob wants to do throughout the entire thing is start his own bakery and I found that adorable. Newt is also super cool! He has a love for these magical creatures that is really admirable. Also, at the end especially (no spoilers) he does things that show how kind he is and I loved it. Obviously there were more characters, but those were my two favorite.

Plot: I was hooked right from the beginning! There's lots of action and, of course, cool magic! It was fast paced with plenty of twists and turns! While the plot was fantastic, for me it was more my attachment to the characters that kept me reading.

Other Thoughts: This isn't really about the content of the screenplay, but the layout of the book and the cover are beautiful! It was formatted really well. The setting of the story was awesome! It was very atmospheric, which I liked. The creatures are described in the screenplay but they are hard to picture without having seen them. I can't wait to go see the movie now!

If you have seen the movie or read the screenplay let me know what you thought about it in the comments! Have a great day!
